How to Avoid Arthritis by Eating Alkaline Diet

Arthritis is a problem affecting millions of adults across the globe. In addition to the pain and discomfort it brings, it can also hamper movement and prevent you from doing activities that you enjoy. As a result, you don’t get to enjoy life to the fullest when you reach that certain age when developing arthritis is commonplace.

While arthritis is predominantly a disease of the elderly, it can also affect children and young adults. Also, it is more common in women than men, regardless of age, race, ethnic group and culture.

Arthritis and Acidity


It has been said that arthritis is more common amongst those who have high levels of toxicity and acidity in their bodies. This means that if you can eliminate toxins and reduce the acidity of your body, you can reduce the symptoms of arthritis. Before we explore how we can reduce your body’s acidity, let’s take a look first at how your body gets acidic in the first place and its impact on your overall health and wellbeing.

There are many ways for your body to get acidic. Primarily, it could get acidic because of the food you eat and from being exposed to various pollutants in your surroundings. When your body becomes too acidic, it will start stealing alkaline minerals from your bones and muscles to maintain balance. If there aren’t enough alkaline minerals left, your bones and muscles will suffer, hence, making you more susceptible to the symptoms of arthritis.

Stopping Arthritis

Since arthritis thrives in a body that is acidic and has high levels of toxins, the most logical way to reduce the pain associated with arthritis is to reduce your body’s acidity levels. You can start by changing your eating habits. This is where the alkaline diet comes in.

According to experts, the pH produced by our diet should be almost the same as the ph level of our blood, which is 7.36. Since all foods and beverages have an alkaline or acidifying effect on the body, we should be mindful of the kind of food we eat every day.

To reduce the acidity of the body and to achieve a healthy balance, we should eat about 75% to 80% of alkaline food and about 20% to 25% of acidic food. Common alkaline foods include:

  • Nuts
  • Vegetables
  • Grains
  • Dairy

Most fruits are acidic, but there are certain varieties that you can include in your alkaline diet. They are lemon, line, grapefruit, and coconut.

By eating less acidic foods and more alkaline foods, you can prevent arthritis or reduce its symptoms if you already have this condition.
